What are Uber's vehicle requirements in Georgia?
For Atlanta, Uber lists a vehicle 15 years old or newer, four doors, good condition with no commercial branding, and registration (official or temporary, not necessarily in your name). For UberX, the car needs five factory seats and seat belts, working windows and A/C, and doors that open independently.

- Full-size vans, box trucks, or limos
- Taxis or marked vehicles
- Salvaged, rebuilt, or similarly branded titles
- Aftermarket seats in the third row
Uber also says partners must maintain their own insurance on the vehicle. For more on that, see what insurance Uber drivers need.

How old can a car be to drive for Uber in Atlanta?
Uber's Atlanta page says your vehicle must be 15 years old or newer for standard rides. Some ride types are stricter: Uber Black and Black SUV require 7 years old or newer, and pickups at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport require a 2015 or newer vehicle.

What are the requirements for each Uber ride type?
Each ride type adds rules on top of the basics. UberX is the standard option. Comfort needs extra legroom, a 4.85 rating, and 100 trips. UberXL needs seats for six passengers. Black needs a newer black vehicle with leather or vegan leather and commercial insurance.
| Ride type | Key vehicle rules (Atlanta or Uber Help) | Driver rules |
|---|---|---|
| UberX | 15 years or newer, 4 doors, 5 factory seats and belts, working A/C | Meet driver requirements |
| Comfort | Eligible for another option, more legroom than compact cars | 4.85+ rating, 100+ trips |
| UberXL | Under 15 model years old, seats and belts for driver plus 6 passengers, no salvage or rental vehicles | Meet driver requirements |
| Black | 7 years or newer, black exterior, black leather or vegan leather interior, seats 4 passengers, commercial insurance | 4.85+ rating |
| Black SUV | Same as Black, seats 6 passengers | 4.85+ rating |

Can I use a rental car for UberX in Georgia?
Yes, rentals can work for UberX. Uber's general vehicle rules say rentals are allowed only in certain markets and only from an authorized Uber rental partner. Cars from Uber's approved partners are added to your profile automatically. Uber says outside rentals need registration, rideshare-approved insurance, and a decal, and it can't guarantee them. UberXL does not allow rental vehicles.

What can I do if my car doesn't meet Uber's requirements?
You can buy or finance a newer car that qualifies, drive a car you're listed as insured on, rent through an Uber partner, rent from a gig rental company like Swift Ride, or start with delivery. DoorDash doesn't set make, model, or year requirements, so an older car can still earn there.
- Buy a qualifying car: check the model year, doors, seats, and title before you buy.
- Use a car you're insured on: Uber says you can drive a car you don't own if you have the owner's permission and you're listed as an insured driver on its policy. (Uber Help)
- Rent through Uber's partners: cars are added to your profile automatically.
- Rent from Swift Ride: our Uber rental page describes "vehicles approved for Uber requirements," and our cars qualify for UberX and delivery apps.
- Try delivery: DoorDash has no car age limit. (DoorDash)
What does Georgia law require for rideshare cars?
Georgia's rideshare law says no vehicle inspections shall be required. It does require ride-hailing companies to register with the Georgia Department of Public Safety, keep a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy, and show riders a digital ID with the driver's name, photo, vehicle make and model, and plate.

Georgia's insurance rules for rideshare drivers are in O.C.G.A. 33-1-24. DPS rules are in Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. 570-38-6.
What do I need to drive at Atlanta's airport?
To pick up at Hartsfield-Jackson, Uber says you need a 2015 or newer vehicle, an Uber decal, and a current ATL hangtag from Uber. Drivers wait in a first-in, first-out area at 1586 Sullivan Road, Atlanta, GA 30337, and must follow airport rules.

What are Uber's driver requirements in Georgia?
